Technology
5G Broadcast is a 3GPP transmission standard (“LTE-based 5G Terrestrial Broadcast”) that facilitates the transmission of IP-based media content over large cells (up to 60 km) directly to mobile devices. The smartphones or tablets can receive the stream without the need of a SIM card, Wi-Fi or internet connection.
Content providers such as broadcasters or streaming providers use this technology to reach their audience by sending the signal once to an unlimited number of customers within the reception area via a high-tower-high-power transmitter.
Nakolos leverages the 5G Broadcast technology to enable new use cases for content providers and broadcast network operators, giving them access to new business models and customers.

Our Solution
Our solution consists of a 5G Broadcast core, which serves as content input and steering point for the transmitter network and a 5G Broadcast middleware, which enables an easy integration of seamless switching between 5G BC and 4G/5G/Wi-Fi into existing apps.

Nakolos as part of Big Blue Marble (formerly Austrian Broadcasting Services/ORS Group), offers end-to-end streaming solutions for 5G Broadcast. Big Blue Marble, the service provider for analogue and digital broadcasting in Austria, has been actively involved in the global 5G & Media initiative, the 5G Media Action Group, 3GPP and other organizations since 2019 and through that have contributed as well as gained a lot of knowledge in the 5G Broadcast field.
