
Seamless Switch between 5G and Media over Quic
IBC2026: World-first demonstration combines 5G Broadcast and Media over QUIC for seamless, ultra-low-latency hybrid media delivery
Nakolos 5G Broadcast platform will be showcased at IBC2026 (RAI Amsterdam, 11–14 September), demonstrating how the technology is evolving to support new use cases and delivery models. Working with technology partners TREDESS, SYES and Bitstem, Big Blue Marble will show what it believes to be the world’s first seamless switching between 5G Broadcast and Media over QUIC (MoQ) with ultra-low glass-to-glass latency.
The demonstrations will highlight how its end-to-end approach can simplify the deployment of emerging 5G Broadcast technologies in real-world services. IBC visitors will also see an end-to-end implementation of 3GPP Release 19 features. This includes advanced emergency warning capabilities that extend public alerts with rich, continuously updated information.
Combining broadcast scale with ultra-low-latency broadband
The hybrid delivery demonstration combines 5G Broadcast for efficient one-to-many distribution with MoQ for flexible, ultra-low-latency internet delivery. Using Nakolos, the MoQ delivery path can be activated on demand rather than requiring broadcast and broadband streams to run continuously in parallel. If 5G Broadcast becomes unavailable or unsuitable, MoQ can take over media delivery seamlessly, with end-to-end latency below one second as shown in tests. When broadcast is available, the same content can be delivered to mass audiences. This is possible without generating individual broadband traffic for every viewer.
The result is a more resilient and bandwidth-efficient delivery model that can support applications ranging from premium live events and sports to critical information services.

Bringing 3GPP Release 19 into an end-to-end environment
Big Blue Marble and its partners will demonstrate what it believes to be the world’s first end-to-end implementation of 3GPP Release 19 features for 5G Broadcast. This follows the successful validation at the 5G-MAG Plugfest in June 2026.
The latest 3GPP specifications can be translated into deployable services within a working 5G Broadcast environment. Nakolos is evolving to support new standards, devices and service requirements.
Extending emergency warning beyond the initial alert
Big Blue Marble will also show how Nakolos can extend emergency warning services beyond an initial Cell Broadcast message. Using 5G Broadcast, authorities and broadcasters can follow an alert with live or recorded video, images, maps, documents and updated guidance as an incident develops. One-to-many delivery enables this information to reach large populations simultaneously. This is even possible, when conventional mobile networks are heavily loaded.
